Transcript submission FAQ for first-year applicants

MSU requires that official transcripts are sent directly from each school or institution you’ve attended. This includes all high school transcripts, as well as transcripts from any dual enrollment or early/middle college programs.

Transcripts can be sent through the following methods.

U.S. mail:
Office of Admissions
Hannah Administration Building
426 Auditorium Road, Room 250
East Lansing, MI 48824-2604
  • If your current high school transcript includes all course names, grades and credits for grades 9–11, you only need to submit your transcript from your current school.
  • If any information is missing (such as courses listed as "TRANSFER" or grades shown only as Pass/Fail), you must also submit official transcripts from all previous high schools.
  • If your new school includes all your past course work (grades 9-11) on your transcript, please submit that.
  • If your new school does not have your previous course work, you must submit
    • a transcript or enrollment verification from your current school showing your enrollment;
    • official transcripts from all previous high schools.
Please submit:
  • an official transcript from your current U.S.-based school;
  • an official transcript from the non-U.S. school where you earned credit.

If your U.S. school has a copy of your official international transcript on file, they may send a certified copy on your behalf. All transcripts must be translated into English.

Please submit official transcripts from each non-U.S. school you attended. Transcripts must be translated into English.

  • An official transcript from your high school showing all course work for grades 9-11
  • If you want to receive college credit for your dual enrollment courses, you must send an official transcript from the college/university.

You do not need to submit an official college/university transcript for admission purposes.

  • Please review MSU’s international transcript requirements for details specific to your country, region or education system. Transcripts not issued in English must be provided in the original language along with an English translation.
  • In general, applicants should submit official copies of external exam scores, as well as official copies of internal grades.
  • We recommend submitting official secondary school (high school) transcripts for grades 9-12 to ensure prompt processing.

Official academic records must be mailed in an official, sealed school envelope directly to the Office of Admissions at Michigan State University or, in some cases, provided electronically as a certified copy from your school.
