Living and dining

Welcome to your 5,300-acre backyard.

MSU's campus is big. Really big. But once you're here, you'll quickly discover that campus is like a small, walkable city — with beautiful, park-like green spaces and neighborhoods where you'll feel right at home.

It won't take you long to find your favorite spots to study, eat and relax with friends.

Live On

With 27 residence halls grouped into five neighborhoods, there’s a place for everyone to call home. In fact, 99% of the first-year class lives on campus and a second-year on-campus requirement was also recently reinstated.

Staying on campus proves to be a smart move. National research shows that students who live on campus are more academically successful and more connected to the campus community. Plus, with everything included (even laundry), it’s a good value for your green and white dollar.

Living here means you’re at the center of all that MSU has to offer: academic support, health resources, renovated residence halls, award-winning dining facilities, recreational activities, student organizations, leadership opportunities, friends and fun.

Explore each of the neighborhoods  and find the right fit for you.

Eat at State

Ranked the No. 1 college and university dining program in the nation (FoodService Director, 2020), MSU makes deciding what to eat — from fresh sushi to locally-sourced fare — the biggest challenge.

Spartans can use their dining plan at more than 30 locations across campus, from full-service dining halls to express cafes and food courts. There's always a dining option open any time of day (or night).

Each dining facility offers a variety of selections, including menu items to support ovo-lacto vegetarian and vegan diets. Students with food allergies or intolerances and those with dietary restrictions will have resources and information to help make safe choices while still having a great dining experience. Students needing further support can visit the Culinary Services website and contact dietitians for additional information.
