Congratulations! You have been admitted to spring semester at Michigan State University, with classes beginning in Jan. 2025. Complete the steps below to reserve your place at MSU.
Please note that we strongly recommend that you take classes at another institution in the fall because students who do so tend to have higher GPAs and perform better at MSU. Plus, students taking classes at another institution can keep progressing toward the completion of their academic program by transferring credits.
IMPORTANT: All offers of admission to MSU are contingent upon continued academic success. This includes the remainder of high school, as well as all college course work prior to enrollment at MSU. A significant decline in performance during your senior year of high school and/or inadequate academic performance in college course work (lower than a 2.0 overall cumulative college GPA) may affect your enrollment status at MSU. Failure to complete all of the steps above will also result in your offer of admission being rescinded.
When MSU receives more qualified applicants than we have available space for, some students will receive an offer of spring admission and be placed on a waitlist for fall semester. If space becomes available, students with spring admission will receive offers to fill the open spaces in the fall class. Due to the high volume of applications and the overall strength of this year's applicants, we are unable to offer spring admitted students a spot in our fall 2024 class at this time.
Due to the high volume of applications and the overall strength of this year's applicants, we are not able to offer you a spot in our fall class at this time. However, you are admitted to Michigan State for the spring semester, starting in Jan. 2025.
Nothing more can be done at this point in the process. Sending additional documents or test scores will not improve your chances of receiving fall admission. Our waitlist for fall admission is now closed.
Yes. Besides performing well in any college-level course work that you may choose to take in the fall, you should follow all the steps outlined in the next steps list at the top of this page. If you decide to take courses at an institution this fall, you are required to achieve an overall collegiate GPA of at least 2.0 in order to enroll for spring semester at MSU. Additionally, you will need to accept your offer of admission and pay your acceptance fee by Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
You are not required to take courses at another school in the fall; however, it is highly recommended. Students taking classes at another institution can keep progressing toward the completion of their academic program by transferring credits and they also tend to perform better once they’re at MSU. To transfer credits, you must earn an overall collegiate GPA of at least 2.0 at the institution you attend — otherwise, your spring admission offer at MSU may be rescinded.
We encourage you to work with the academic adviser at your chosen institution to help you select the appropriate courses. It is recommended that you enroll in classes that will assist you in being prepared to transition to MSU. We recommend taking entry-level courses in math, social sciences or humanities. These are our recommendations (they are not requirements). Once you have selected courses, use transfer.msu.edu to view transferrable credits by individual institutions.
Yes. While you have been offered admission for the spring semester, this offer can be withdrawn in response to poor academic performance. If you decide to take courses at an institution this fall, you are required to achieve an overall collegiate GPA of at least 2.0 in order to enroll for spring semester at MSU. For this reason, it is recommended that you work closely with your academic adviser at the school you choose to attend in the fall and commit to your course work. Students with poor performance in college credits should notify our office immediately and not wait until their orientation date to determine their admission eligibility.
You can request a final transcript now through Parchment before the school year is over. This final high school transcript must be submitted to the Office of Admissions by November 1, 2024. This transcript must include the month, day and year of your graduation. Poor performance during your senior year can result in your offer of admission being rescinded. High school transcripts must be sent directly to MSU through an electronic delivery service, such as Parchment. Transcripts that are faxed or emailed are not acceptable.
Official copies of all AP test scores must be sent directly to MSU for academic credit to be awarded. If your AP test score meets MSU's minimum AP score requirements, then academic credit and/or a course waiver may be awarded. Community colleges and other institutions may have different minimum score requirements, so please send AP test scores directly to MSU by the end of October to allow ample time for processing. Please see our advanced credits page for a list of AP scores that qualify for academic credit or a course waiver, the amount of academic credit these scores can grant to a student, and the MSU course requirements that AP tests can satisfy. This page also has information regarding Higher Level International Baccalaureate assessment scores and other testing transfer credit opportunities.
Prior to the beginning of the spring semester, information about orientation will be sent to your MSU email. During orientation, you will have the opportunity to meet with an academic adviser who is assigned to you based on your declared major or area of interest. Orientation information will be provided when it becomes available.
Yes, all new spring students will be required to participate in a New Student Orientation (NSO) program. There will be a required online portion as well as an option in-person portion.
To receive financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. Financial aid information will be provided when it becomes available.
While we will make every effort to accommodate your request, housing is not guaranteed for our spring incoming class. More information regarding New Student Orientation and on-campus housing opportunities will be available later this fall.
We are committed to ensuring that spring students receive placement in on-campus housing in a timely manner. Students who move into a residence hall in the fall have the first opportunity to make room changes in the spring — so it is possible to be placed with a roommate of your choice if they have space available in their current room, or if they are willing to move to a different room so that you can become roommates.
Most majors are available to students starting at MSU during spring semester. However, please note the following exceptions:
Please note that selecting one of the majors above will not affect a student's admission status at MSU.
