Academic department visits

Students interested in a particular major, program or other academic opportunities are encouraged to take advantage of one or more of the department visit options below. Departments are currently offering a mix of in-person and virtual visits. To see which colleges and departments your academic interests belong to, explore our career interest areas.


Informational sessions for prospective students and families are offered most Tuesday and Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. Sessions may be virtual, in-person or both depending on select dates. Sessions will cover an overview of the Broad College of Business, college admissions pathways, majors/academic curriculum and student opportunities and services. Students are encouraged to visit MSU's Career Services Network website to learn more about the wealth of resources, tools and opportunities available to students.

For students interested in learning more about majors in the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, please contact Jeff Keson, Assistant Director for Recruitment & Retention, at kesonjef@msu.edu. For those seeking to visit MSU's campus, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources visits and tours are available Thursdays and Fridays (with virtual options available Monday through Wednesday).

The College of Arts and Letters (CAL) offers individualized visits to meet your needs and introduce you to your program of interest. Please take a minute and fill out our visit registration form and we will get started on your itinerary.

Teacher Preparation Program
  • In-person information sessions will be offered on Fridays at Noon, between September 13 and November 22.

Presentation and tour
Presentations followed by a tour begin in October and run through December. Visit the Engineering website to learn more about this program and sign up to attend.

The College of Music Admissions Office is open for in-person visits. In-person visits must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance for a weekday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. To schedule a time to meet with the College of Music admissions staff, or to address any other questions or concerns, call (517) 355-2140 or email MUSIC.Admissions@msu.edu. The College of Natural Science (NatSci) will be hosting in-person Undergraduate Visit Days during the fall 2024 semester. At your Visit Day, you can expect to meet the NatSci Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator for a presentation and Q&A session. RSVP is required to attend our Visit Days. Sign up to RSVP.

This session alone does NOT include a campus tour. If you wish to combine this experience with a campus tour, you will need sign up for a campus tour separately.

College of Natural Science Visit Days fall 2024

The College of Nursing hosts a variety of information sessions throughout the academic year for prospective students interested in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. During these events, students have the opportunity to learn more about program requirements and the admissions process, as well as ask questions of our admissions counselor and current nursing students. RSVP is required for both virtual and in-person sessions.


Traditional BSN in-person sessions
These sessions are held in the Bott Building for Nursing and include a tour of the Granger Simulation Lab. They will take place on the following dates.

Students interested in nursing are also encouraged to view other events hosted by the College of Nursing.

Students interested in the variety of degree programs within the College of Social Science can schedule an appointment with an academic adviser in their related department/major of interest. The College of Veterinary Medicine offers online informational webinars for high school students interested in learning more about our Preveterinary, Veterinary Nursing and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Programs. On March 22, 2024, The College of Veterinary Medicine hosts Veterinary Education Day which provides an opportunity for students to learn more about our academic programs, meet current Preveterinary, Veterinary Nursing and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Students. Registration is required and will be available in mid-January on the Veterinary Medicine events calendar.

Please note: the Veterinary Medical Center is typically not able to accommodate tours of the hospital due to student and employee safety as well as biosecurity, however there is a virtual tour online.

Individuals specifically interested in the Veterinary Nursing Program may reach out directly to the Veterinary Nursing Coordinator of Community Outreach at cvm.vetnursing@msu.edu.

Students interested in learning about education abroad opportunities at MSU can visit the Office for Education Abroad website for more information. Advisers are available for questions Monday through Friday in-person, over email and on the phone. Zoom appointments are also available. Students interested in exploratory preference majors can attend an in-person session with University Advising on October 4, November 15 or December 6 of 2024 to learn more about how to explore majors at MSU.

During these appointments, an exploratory adviser can discuss your interests and options with you. Students can take advantage of this amazing opportunity to find a major that’s a good fit.

Prospective and admitted students interested in learning more about James Madison College, MSU’s residential college focused on public affairs and public policy programs, are encouraged to reach out to the recruitment team at (517) 353-5260 or jmcadmin@msu.edu. A range of in-person and virtual visit opportunities are available this semester in individual and group settings. Lyman Briggs College (LBC) is a science-focused residential college connecting the natural sciences and mathematics with the humanities and social sciences. LBC has both virtual and in-person visits. During the appointments, students will learn about the history of the nation’s second-oldest hospitality program and find out more about academic programs, admission procedures, extracurricular activities and career opportunities.
